Puerto Ricans' experience with pregnancy loss and social media
If you have experienced pregnancy loss during the past 3 years, are at least 18 years old, speak English or Spanish fluently, use social media, and live in Puerto Rico, we want to hear from you.

Introduction and description of subject involvement
This study explores how Puerto Rican women, who have experienced pregnancy loss in the last three years (2016-2019) use social media.
The study entails an interview session during which we will learn about your experience with pregnancy loss and related technology use (e.g., social media).
In order to participate in the interview study, we ask that you fill out a screening survey first. That will take 2-5 minutes to complete. If you are invited for the interview study, we would like to have a conversation with you about your pregnancy loss experience and technology use via your preferred communication tool (e.g., Skype, phone call).
The entire interview session will take approximately 60-90 minutes, and will be audio recorded and transcribed (but not video recorded). Interviews will occur over video or voice call of your choice in your preferred language (Spanish or English). You will need a device that you can use in order to communicate with us via call.
Benefits
There are no direct tangible benefits to you from participating in this study. However, others have reported experiencing relief and catharsis due to sharing their experience. You will also play a significant role in helping us understand experiences with social media and pregnancy loss for women from Puerto Rico.
Risks and discomforts
There are no obvious physical, legal, financial, or economic risks associated with participating in this study. The psychological effects on you will be no greater than the effect of having a conversation about your experience with pregnancy loss and the context within which it happened. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during the session, you may stop the interview or skip any questions at any time that you choose with no penalty.
Compensation
Participation in this interview study is at no cost to you. Upon your completion of this interview study, you will receive a $15 gift card as a token of appreciation for your time and sharing your experience with us.
Confidentiality
We take your privacy very seriously. We may publish summaries of this study’s results, but will not include any information that would identify you in any way. It is possible that others may need to see the information you give us as part of the study, such as organizations responsible for making sure the research is done safely and properly like the University of Michigan IRB or government offices. We ask for your name and email only to coordinate the interview and providing the honorarium.
To minimize risk of breach of confidentiality, all participants and their data will be given pseudonyms or participant numbers for recording and reporting purposes. Moreover, only the research team and transcribers who are bound to a confidentiality agreement will have access to the conversations. The recording of the interview and subsequent transcription will be kept on a secure U of M server. Data collected in this study will be retained for potential comparative research studies. A summary of the study’s results will be made available to you upon request.
Voluntary nature of this study
Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. You may choose not to participate at all, or may refuse to answer certain questions or discontinue participation at any time without penalty.

Introducción y descripción de la participación del sujeto
Esta investigación que explora cómo las mujeres Puertorriqueñas, que han perdido un embarazo en los últimos tres años (2016-2019) utilizan las redes sociales.
Esta investigación se llevará a cabo a través de una entrevista durante la cual aprenderemos de su experiencia con la pérdida de un embarazo y el uso tecnológico relevante (e.j., redes sociales).
Para participar en esta investigación, le pedimos que primero llene una encuesta preliminar. Esto tomará 2-5 minutos para completar. Si la invitamos para una entrevista, nos gustaría tener una conversación sobre su experiencia con la pérdida y su uso tecnológico a través de su modo de comunicación preferido (e.j., Skype, llamada telefónica).
La sesión de entrevista tomará aproximadamente 60-90 minutos y el audio será grabado y transcrito, pero no habrá una grabación de contenido visual. Esta entrevista ocurrirá a través del método de llamada que usted prefiera y en el idioma que prefiera (español o inglés). Necesitará un medio que pueda usar para comunicarse con nosotras a través de una llamada.
Beneficios
No hay beneficio personal que sea tangible para usted a causa de participar en esta investigación, pero otras han comunicado que sintieron alivio y catarsis a causa de compartir su experiencia. Usted también tendrá un papel importante en ayudarnos a entender las experiencias de las mujeres Puertorriqueñas que han perdido un embarazo y su uso de redes sociales.
Riesgos e incomodidades
No hay riesgo físico, legal, financiero o económico obvio asociado a su participación en esta investigación. Los efectos psicológicos no serían más potentes que el efecto de tener una conversación de su experiencia con la pérdida de su embarazo y el contexto en el que sucedió. Si en algún momento durante la entrevista se siente incómoda, puede parar la entrevista o elegir no contestar cualquiera de las preguntas sin penalidad.
Compensación
Participación en esta investigación no tendrá costo para usted. Cuando usted culmine con la investigación, se le otorgará un “gift card” de $15 como una manera de demostrar nuestra apreciación por tomar de su tiempo y compartir su experiencia con nosotras.
Confidencialidad
Su privacidad es un tema que tratamos con mucha seriedad. Es posible que publiquemos resúmenes de los resultados de esta investigación, pero no se incluirá información que pueda servir para identificarla. Es posible que otros necesitan ver la información que usted provea como parte del estudio, como organizaciones responsables en asegurarse que la investigación se conduzca de manera segura y propia, tal como la Universidad de Michigan IRB u oficinas gubernamentales. Le pedimos su nombre y correo electrónico solo para coordinar la entrevista y proveer su recompensa.
Para minimizar el riesgo de violación de confidencialidad, todos las participantes y su data será dado un seudónimo o número de participante para propósitos de grabación e informes.
